About Us
Woods Edge Family Childcare is a NJ State Registered Family Child Care Provider serving young explorers in the Warren County area.
Our main focus is cultivating a bond between the child and the natural world around them. We do this through encouraging curiosity, daily outdoor play and building an appreciation of the natural wonders that surround us. We believe children learn best when they are allowed to lead and given the opportunity to take age appropriate risks. This approach allows children to build confidence, better understand cause and effect and develop skills to use their best judgement. Through observation, gentle reminders are used to encourage safety while building a mutual respect for others including the world around them. We believe that all weather is worthy of exploring and allow every child to discover the naturalist within.
Ms. Katie
Katie Styer is the of mother of three mud-loving, tree-climbing children and proud owner of Woods Edge FCC. Katie and her family moved to the Blairstown area in 2017 and found there was a shortage of registered family childcare providers in the area. In November of 2018 Katie completed the process of becoming a NJ State Registered Family Childcare Provider and opened Woods Edge Family Childcare. Katie's love of the outdoors and goal of cultivating a bond between children and nature is what motivated her to shift her program to a Nature-Based one. In October 2020 Katie completed the Eastern Region Association of Forest and Nature School’s Level 1 Nature Based Educator certification program and completed Level 2 in July 2021.
In her free time Katie enjoys baking sourdough, reading, gardening, making soap, and caring for the animals on her family farmstead.
Our Programs
Nature Play-School
9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Tuesdays & Thursdays
Forest & Nature Play-School is a play-based, nature focused learning experience for children ages 2 & up utilizing an emergent, seasonal, nature-based curriculum including woodland play, art and skill-building sessions in a small group setting. We offer ample unstructured free time outdoors so children may build confidence in themselves and form an intimate, deep and personal connection to the natural world.
Nature Based Family Childcare
As Available
Woods Edge Family Childcare offers nature based family childcare part-time for children preschool age 2 and older. All children enrolled full-time at Woods Edge participate in the Nature Play School program.

My boys absolutely love going to Woods Edge! We even call it "big boy school" because although, not technically a school, my children's lives are so enriched by their stimulating play and nurturing care, that I feel that they are learning so much. Both Ms. Jenny and Ms. Katie are kind and caring and every moment that I have witnessed has been heart-warming. I also feel that the environment fosters free play but at the same time, not one play area or meal served is without intention. That is why it works so well! I feel so good when I leave my boys and they run off without even a goodbye! They are also sad to leave. I highly recommend Woods Edge to anyone who is looking for an extraordinary experience for their children.
